About me

My name is Dawit Toomey, and I have lived in Windsor Connecticut for almost two years now. Before I lived in Windsor, I lived in West Hartford Connecticut. I was originally born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and at the age of three, I was adopted. I am currently sixteen years old, and in February I will have lived in the United States for 13 years. I am a Senior at Watkinson School and will graduate in 2020.

I joined the Global Studies Program because I feel that having a more global view of the world is very important. I hope that during my time in the Global Studies Program, that we have meaningful discussions about perspective, and that I am able to learn the skills and nurture my ability to be a more open-minded thinker. I am most interested in discussing issues with people who have a different perspective than me, because I believe that having the ability to see multiple sides of an issue is crucial ability to have, especially in the time we live in. If more people could have discussions and work with people they disagree with, I believe the world will be a better place.

Ultimate Frisbee

When I was in my freshman year of High School I was introduced to the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. I love playing Ultimate Frisbee and is one of my favorite ways to spend my time

Sporting TV

I am a fan of the New England Patriots and watch every single one of their games. I am also a fan of the NBA and root for the San Antiono Spurs.

I enjoy looking at and wearing sneakers. I mainly like wearing high tops and I am a huge fan of Jordan Brand Shoe.

I have always been fascinated with technology and enjoy all aspects of it. I have an XBOX and play NBA 2K all the time, and I have even tried getting into coding at a very beginer level.

College and Beyond

Next year, I will be attending Providence College and will be majoring in Finance. I am excited about this next chapter in my life and I think being part of Global Studies has prepared me for college. When it comes to broader thinking and having a global mindset, I think that I am greater prepared because of my time in Global Studies. I will use these skills I learned in this program to further my learning and understanding of the world.

At this moment I am unsure about what specific career I will go into after college, but it will have to do with business. Being in Global Studies has shown me how important it is to run an ethical business. I think this coupled with my willingness to understand the perspectives of other people will allow me to be better at my job. Being globally-minded is essential for jobs in the business sector because of how reliant it is on the global economy. I think being able to think outside the US bubble will be vital in all aspects of a business.
